Sigi Atteneder was born in Freistadt, Austria in 1971, lives and workes in Linz, Austria. He holds a degree in Architecture (mag.arch.) from the University of Arts and Industrial Design in Linz, Austria and is teaching Architecture at the EUREGIO Foto College in Kefermarkt, Austria.

In his first career Atteneder was trained as a builder and worked in the building sector for 14 years. During his studies he spent one semester at the University of Hong Kong, he also worked for several architectural firms in Austria on a freelance basis. In 2007 freelance work at Shigeru Ban Architects in Tokyo followed. He led the internationally honored “living tebogo – building in a township” project in Johannesburgh, Shouth Africa.

During the last decade Atteneder developed a number of projects across the fields of Architecture, Urban Planning and Arts and conducted numerous study travels - to the US, to Mexico, South Africa, Japan and especially the Southeast Asian region. His recent thesis-project was about the East Mediterranean and gives an insight into the region as well as an outlook towards the future. With the related “Hummus 2050 – East Mediterranean City Belt” he could win MITs “just jerusalem – jerusalem 2050” competition (together with Lorenz Potocnik) and was granted a research fellowship at the MIT in Boston in 2008.

Atteneder has been awarded several prices and scholarships and successfully participated in numerous competitions. His current work is related to the Middle East and especially the so called “Levant” and it´s potentials for a thriving and peaceful interconnected region.
