HUMMUS 2050

HUMMUS 2050 was originally developed in 2007 in the frame of the Just Jerusalem competition submission requirements. The Just Jerusalem Competition was part of the Jerusalem 2050 program, a joint initiative of the Massachusetts Institute of Technologies´ Department of Urban Studies and Planning and Center for International Studies in Cambridge, USA.

Not limited to Jerusalem, HUMMUS 2050 is an overarching vision for a peaceful and thirving East Mediterranean Region by the year 2050. It attempts to create a large initiative to re-connect this fragmented area through a long term cooperative process, based on civic society movements and a network of cities. Generating an East Mediterranean City Belt will lead to a cosmopolitan identity.

Based on data and prognoses from the UN and the Economist, this map projects the East Mediterranean region in the year 2050. Consequent upon global phenomena and trends, urban areas will enlarge, national borders will dissolve, and a dense infrastructure will be established.
