Jerusalem

Because of its location, neither at the coast nor along the hinterland axis, Jerusalem constitutes an exemption. As a religious center for the three monotheistic religions, it has been disputed as hardly any other city in the world has. Even within Israel, Jerusalemites have a reputation for being very religious and are often seen as their own classification of people, demographically and culturally different from the rest of Israel. The tension is perpetuated and exacerbated by the conflict between Isreali unification and governance of the city and Palestinian demands for East Jerusalem to be the capital of a new Palestinian state.
