Orient

Orient just means “east”. The term is the most unclear of all terms defining the region. Not only has its meaning shifted and the world´s “global” perception shifted, but it also has different definitions in English and German. Initially, the “Orient” referred primarily to the cultures and countries of, what is now considered, the Middle East. As a result of its ambiguity, the term “Orient” nowadays is mostly used for touristic purposes.
