Land Use

In the southern part only the irrigation enabled by the Nile River secures the survival of the people. Along the coast are the fertile western slopes of the mountain range (see Topography) on the eastern side of which are the valleys of the Jordan, Litani, and Orontes Rivers. The slopes up from these rivers to the eastern plateaus are also relatively fertile. Plenty of arable land, water and forest areas are only to be found in Turkey.
