Damascus

Damascus is one of the oldest permanently inhabited cities in the world. From the beginning, the Ghouta Oasis has been the life-source of the city, which is located in an extremely dry region. A high birth-rate coupled with a strong migration into the city during the last few decades has caused Damascus to bourgeon. Despite a population boom, the rebuilding of the market economy and the building of a public transport system are slow to develop.
